2018 Competition Winners and Finalists
With over 700 photos entered from around Australia, judges’ voting narrowed the field to the 21 finalist images that were exhibited at the AUSSIE STREET exhibition.
The three winning entries that received the AUSSIE STREET 2018 Prizes were announced at the exhibition opening by Jesse Marlow.

Giving Australian street photographers the opportunity to be exhibited at a leading Sydney gallery during one of the world’s most prestigious photography festivals, AUSSIE STREET showcased the best contemporary street photography in Australia curated by an expert judging panel.
AUSSIE STREET is non-profit and all funds raised through competition entries were utilised to make the event successful and to support the photographic community.
Prizes
In addition to the Finalist exhibition, there are three placed Prizes in the Aussie Street 2018 Competition:
First Prize for Best Single Aussie Street Photograph - AUD $1000
Second Prize for Best Single Aussie Street Photograph - AUD $500
Third Prize for Best Single Aussie Street Photograph - AUD $250
Judging
All submissions to the Competition were subject to ‘blind judging’ where the expert panel will select Finalists for exhibition. All selected Finalists were be exhibited in May 2018 during a major photography festival attracting international and local spectators, including collectors, curators and gallerists.
JESSE MARLOW
Jesse Marlow is an Australian street, editorial and commercial photographer who lives and works in Melbourne. Over the last 17 years he has worked for a range of local and international magazines, newspapers and commercial clients. Jesse's work has been published in three books of his own, and in numerous street photography compilations; it has been exhibited in solo exhibitions in Australia, and group exhibitions internationally; and is held in the public collections of the City of Melbourne, and the State Library of Victoria.
Jesse was selected to participate in the World Press Photo – Joop Swart Masterclass in 2006. In 2010 he was profiled in the seminal book Street Photography Now (Thames & Hudson). He won first prize in the 2011 London Street Photography Festival's International Street Photography Award, and won the 2012 Bowness Photography Prize. Jesse has been a member of the In-Public street photography collective since 2001 and is represented by M.33.
Alison McCauley
Alison McCauley lives in Singapore. She has a visual arts background and education. Alison is currently working on her second book. This book contains a series of images taken during the past five Cannes Film Festivals. Alison has had solo exhibitions in France and Switzerland and group exhibitions in the US, UK, France, Switzerland and Georgia. Her photographs have been published by Al Jazeera, BBC News in Pictures, France 24, Courrier International, The Daily Mail, The Houston Chronicle, BLink - The Hindu Business Line, advocate.com, Foto 8, Life Force Magazine, Photo District News and The Telegraph, among others. She is a Member of Inverse and Vivo Collectives and of the agency Dalam Images.
gRACIELA mAGNONI
I was born in Uruguay and my nomadic life started at only 2 months old. I spent my childhood moving from country to country, from the still developing world to the already developed world and then back again. At the time, this was considered a dysfunctional life. Later, I realised that I had an incredibly interesting childhood and I feel very lucky to have experienced a life without borders at such an early age. Those younger years gave me my continued love for the unknown and the unfamiliar. My only fear is if I do get to know every corner of the world – then what?
My career began in the Brazilian Press, going from photographing for a small political newspaper to the more mainstream press. In 1990, I moved to New York and worked for a few Brazilian and Argentinian papers and magazines, covering the news. Moving to Singapore in 2003, I started to photograph on the streets there and also in many other cities around the region. I especially am enamoured with the cities and villages of India.
Travelling and photographing have been my obsession since I was 15 years old. I've also noticed that the older I get, the stronger this obsession has become. There are moments when a totally banal scene is transformed by the camera into an original image with an intriguing story to tell. Emotion, complexity and surprise are definitely elements I like, and these are the kinds of images I look for.
I have a BA in Journalism and an M.A. in Visual and International Communication from the University of Minnesota.

rammy narula
Rammy Narula is a Thai born and Bangkok based photographer with a deep passion to explore the streets with his camera. One of his images was featured in the book “100 Great Street Photographs”, curated by David Gibson and released by Prestel Publishing in May 2017. Rammy's personal project and first book, "Platform 10", shot on a single platform at Bangkok Central Train Station over many months, has also been published by Peanut Press (New York).
As a member of Burn My Eye Collective and Street Photo Thailand, when he is not concentrating on his own work, Rammy serves as a photography mentor, running several workshops throughout the year, both for larger groups and more personalised for individuals. He has also been invited to judge street photography competitions at London Street Photo Festival in 2017 and for the Italian Street Photo Festival in Rome, 2018.
Rammy's photos have appeared in many local and international publications and websites, including WIRED.com and most recently his street work has appeared on the Leica Camera Blog.
Moshe Rosenzveig
Moshe Rosenzveig is the founder, director and Lead Curator of the internationally acclaimed Head On Photo Festival, Australia’s most prestigious photography event and one of the world’s leading photography festivals.
Moshe is an award winning television producer/director, photojournalist, commercial photographer and educator, whose career in the visual arts and the media spans 35 years. His television work has been screened on SBS TV, ARTE, and other overseas networks and his photographic work has been published in major local and international magazines, was featured on CD and book covers and exhibited in various shows including at the Sydney Festival.
Moshe teaches in various institutions and is a judge and portfolio reviewer for arts events including Sydney’s Art & About, Joop Masterclass, The Walkley Awards, Rencontres d’Arles and other international festivals.
